about 513{eats} & faqs

Who is 513{eats}LLC?

I founded/created 513{eats}LLC in November 2011 upon veering a little off my path as an established fine arts portrait photographer (kiwi street studios) after falling in love with telling visual stories about food, places, and the people behind it and thought it a wonderful way to build a food portfolio while sharing the amazing people and food in our Queen City.
I have produced four magazines to date, you can view them {here}
Of course, I could not have accomplished this without the collaboration of a wonderfully artistic community; the people who allowed me to photograph them, Ilene Ross to write about them, Nora Martini for helping to style their foods, Eric Hintz for crafting gorgeous videos, and for Lisa Ballard for creating original artworks for many of the pages. For everyone’s involvement, I am truly grateful.

What is 513{eats}?

Simply put, 513{eats}LLC is on a passionate journey to share with you the very best of food related goodness, as well as the authentic lifestyles in the food community that exist in and around our region.  Discover individuals who are carving out a thoroughly delectable world for themselves, their families, and the community by following their hearts and taste buds, always with an eye towards environmental awareness. Come along for the ride and see for yourself what deliciousness there is to be had right in your own backyard.

Do you provide restaurant reviews?

While I love the fact that visiting and eating at a variety of amazing restaurants plays a large part of what 513{eats} does,  it is just that ~ a part of a story or feature.
513{eats}’s goal is to share it’s finds with you via visual and written stories.
There are already enough talented people out there that take care of the reviewing part, I’ll stick to my job and let them do theirs.

We would love to send you a sample of our product. Will you write a review about it on your blog?

While I would especially love to say yes to this one, again, product reviewing is not the main goal. However, sharing amazing discoveries are.
If you have seen or read a story where there are, in fact, featured products, foods, or locations ~ they are there as part of a story as it supports my mission statement.
If you feel you have a product that you think I would love to use in a story, by all means, feel free to tell me about it.

Who designed your website?

The website is based on a WordPress platform that I’ve fully customized.

How do I advertise in your magazine and on your site?

I am not accepting advertising at this time.

Who shoots and produces your quarterly magazines?

99% of all the still imagery on both the blog and in the magazines are mine, ©Gina Weathersby and I also produce both the blog and the magazines.

Do you have any need for interns/

Not at the moment.

Are you looking for contributors/guest bloggers?

I love for other artists to join in. I feel it makes and keeps things more interesting. Having said this, I also try and hold close to the look, feel and voice within the pages of both the blog and magazine, which I have worked hard to create and am very proud of.
Please send inquiries directly to me, at gina@ginaweathersby.com.

I am a fellow blogger, may I link, use images or otherwise share content from your site onto mine?

I am flattered that you would want to and would love for you to share content and imagery from the blog.
Simply follow the ‘link with love‘ guidelines and we will all be happy.
The short version…please ask first, link and credit.

May I use images you shot of my food/restaurant/business for my website and/or marketing purposes?

Yes, of course you may and I would be more than happy to send you information, and usage fees. Thank you, in advance, for asking verses helping yourself. Please remember, I own the rights to all images. Using, sharing, or otherwise altering my images without permission is strictly prohibited and are protected under copyright laws. Plus, it’s just not nice.
Contact me directly at gina@513eats.com for more information.

Do you only shoot for your magazine? May I hire you?

I am for hire. I regularly shoot outside of the magazine and would love to discuss your project with you.  Currently I am taking commissions for food related commercial, editorial, lifestyle, travel, and cookbook assignments.
You can see a partial list of clients here.
Please contact me directly at gina@513eats.com

What kind of camera, equipment, and lighting do you use?

My shooting style is very relaxed and by choice, does not include a lot of equipment. I prefer to keep it very simple. Luckily, the style of food photography I gravitate towards is the same ~ relaxed, rustic, tactile, a bit on the casual side. I believe that natural or available lighting gives me this look and feel. This is a very personal choice and works beautifully for me. For the majority of my food shoots, I use the Canon 5D Mark3, dslr.  I own a handful of pretty great fixed lenses, but the ones I use most for the stories I photograph for 513{eats} are the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8, and the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L.

Would you consider holding a class to help me take better food pictures for my own blog?

The short answer is yes, I would be more than willing to share what I know and what I have learned with anyone who wants to know, though I would never claim to know it all. If you are genuinely interested, send me an email at gina@ginaweathersby.com and I will add you to the list.
